On June 18, CARMA was present at the “AI for Preparedness” workshop, a three-day event hosted in Brussels by DG ECHO (Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations). The workshop brought together civil protection professionals, researchers, and key stakeholders from across Europe to discuss the role of Artificial Intelligence in Disaster Resilience Management (DRM).
Representing CARMA at the event were Nicholas Vretos from CERTH (Centre for Research & Technology Hellas) and Alexandre Ahmad from CS GROUP. They contributed to the discussions by sharing insights on how AI-driven technologies developed within the CARMA project can enhance both crisis preparedness and operational response.
The event provided an important space to examine how artificial intelligence can support first responders and decision-makers in anticipating, managing, and responding to emergencies more effectively.
In addition to CARMA’s participation, the workshop featured Philippe Meresse from VALABRE, as well as representatives from AOEE (Association des Officiers-Élèves de l’ENSOSP), reflecting the broad and inclusive nature of the event, which welcomed both end users and Member State representatives.

These exchanges underscore the importance of keeping technological innovation grounded in real operational needs—a principle at the core of CARMA’s approach to supporting first responders through intelligent, adaptable tools.
